Available PhD and Honours Projects

The research activities of the school are organised into Departments. The little descriptions in parenthesis give you a flavour of the type of work done in each department, actual projects can be found by following the links.

Applied Mathematics (Despite the name, lots of the work is experimental and spans a wide range of disciplines. For example: porosity of oil bearing rocks, medical imaging, biomineralisation, life on mars! and much more.) Available Projects
Atomic and Molecular Physics Laboratories (Laser cooling of atoms to almost absolute zero, spectroscopic studies of ozone and atmospheric physics, electron momentum spectroscopy and much more.) Available Projects
Electronic Materials Engineering (Design and growth of quantum well lasers, ion beam modification of materials, cutting edge semiconductor technology and much more.) Available Projects
Laser Physics Centre (Advanced non linear materials for photonics, laser spectroscopy, laser based production of materials and much more.) Available Projects
The Nonlinear Optics Centre (Model exotic nonlinear photonic devices and study soliton and optical wave behaviour) Available Projects
Nuclear Physics (Use Australia's largest accelerator facility to work on: Fusion and Fission dynamics of heavy ions, detection of radioactive pollution by accelerator mass spectroscopy, Nuclear Spectroscopy and much more.) Available Projects
Plasma Research Laboratory (Plasma confinement and clean fusion energy - the H1-National Facility, plasma processing of materials such as semiconductor wafers, wireless communication rapidly reconfigurable and stealthy plasma antennae and much more.) Available Projects
Theoretical Physics (Plasmas and fluids, mathematical physics and condensed matter physics.) Available Projects
