Recent approaches to understanding global gene expression

Applications of entropy methods to climate models (Roderick Dewar, Robert Niven)

We will implement and analyse simple 1-box and 2-box climate models discussed in the lecture by R. Dewar.
Dynamical Systems / Modeling and Analysis (Rowena Ball, Federico Frascoli, David Liley)
Examples from the Dynamical Systems lectures by D. Liley and R. Ball will be explored with Matlab and freely available add-on package Matcont.
Cellular Automata and Agent-Based Modeling (Matthew Berryman)
We introduce the freely available agent-based modeling environment Netlogo. Complex automata models, agent-based models and network formations will be explored.
Network Analysis (Matthew Berryman)
We will discuss, analyse and visualise network properties with the freely available software Pajek. Participants of the agent-based model tutorial can analyse previous network results.
Analysing Complex Data(Kirsty Kitto, Frank Detering)
We will explore matrix-based feature extraction algorithms such as principal component analysis to data sets from physics (ground-based magnetometer data) and WWW text streams with the freely available statistical software package R and the widely used software Matlab.
3D Visualisation and Volume Rendering (Ajay Limaye, Stuart Ramsden)
We will demonstrate the volume rendering software Drishti and advanced 3D visualisation technology that is used at the Vizlab in the ANU Supercomputing Facility.
