| About the Centre for Theoretical Physics |
The aims of the Centre for Theoretical Physics are:
The Centre includes the Department of Theoretical Physics, which
provides adminstrative support for it, and is a component of the National Institute
for Theoretical Physics.
In January of each year the CTP runs a Physics Summer School, sponsored by the
Research School of Physical Sciences and Engineering of the ANU's Institute
of Advanced Studies and run by the School's Department of Theoretical Physics,
typically in partnership with other departments of the University. The aim of
the Summer Schools is to provide introductory graduate level courses to students
and others in an area of current interest in physics.
The topic for the 14th Summer School, January 15-26 2001, was Biophysics:
From Proteins to Cells. A new development in 2001 was an additional
Mini Summer School on Plasma Physics, 29 January -
2 February, 2001. For details of current and past Summer Schools use the Summer
Schools link at left.
The CTP also runs occasional extended research workshops as part of a national
theoretical physics program. The Year 2000 workshop, was held 16-29 October
2000, on the topic Soft Condensed Matter: Physical and Biological
Aspects (see the Workshops link at left).
CANBERRA INTERNATIONAL PHYSICS SUMMER SCHOOLS
and CTP/NITP RESEARCH WORKSHOPS
The CTP is interested in receiving proposals, both from within the ANU and from other institutions able to participate, for the topics for future summer schools. If you have an idea for a suitable theme, please provide
Ideas for workshops are also welcome. Please contact the Coordinator of the Centre regarding
any such proposals.
