BEC, Atom Lasers and Degenerate Fermi Gases: An
Experimentalists View

ABSTRACT:

In this talk, I will describe the research program into degenerate quantum gases in the Department of Physics. I will describe our BEC experiment, our recent results and our plans to build an atom laser and characterise the output beam. I will also discuss the new experiment we are building to cool a gas of Fermions to the degenerate regime by sympathetic cooling with Bosons.
