"Turbulence and Coherent Structures in Fluids, Plasma and Granular Flows"

16-20 January 2006

The Australian National University, Canberra

Summer School Convenor: Dr. Michael Shats (

Supported by the Complex Open Systems Network (COSNet)

Summer School Convener: Dr Michael Shats (

The Summer School will follow a 4-day CSIRO/COSNet Workshop (10-13 January)

Topics and lecturers:

The Summer School is intended for the Honours, Masters and PhD students, post docs and researchers working in various fields where turbulence and coherent structures play important roles.

One of the main objectives of this Summer School is to introduce turbulence as a cross-disciplinary domain and to give attendees exposure to some of the most vital theoretical and experimental areas of the turbulence studies.

Lectures given by leading world specialists will cover fundamentals of theory of developed turbulence, formation of patterns, theoretical approaches to turbulence (chaos, dynamical systems, renormalization) as well as numerical and experimental techniques. Applications range from fluids to plasma, atmospheric, oceanic and granular flows.
