Twelfth
Physics Summer School
QUANTUM AND CLASSICAL
CHAOS
11th-22nd January 1999
The School is intended for advanced undergraduate and graduate students of Australian and New Zealand universities. Participation of overseas students and research workers from universities and research laboratories from Australasia, the Asia-Pacific region and elsewhere is also encouraged. Limited financial assistance is available on application to students unable to get support from their home institution.
The aim of the School is to expose the participants to current developments in quantum and classical wave chaos and its application to statistical physics, condensed matter, mesoscopic systems, optics, plasma, molecular, atomic and nuclear physics. The lectures will start at an introductory level and later build up to a stage where the participants can appreciate the challenges of current research fields. The courses and lectures have been planned to be suitable for both theorists and experimentalists.
There will be four lectures per day (five days a week). Therefore, plenty of time will be available for individual study, review of lecture notes and informal discussion among the participants and lecturers. We encourage participants to attend both weeks to take full advantage of the material presented.
Accommodation for the participants is being arranged in Ursula College and it is possible that some accommodation could be arranged in Liversidge Court or University House. Approximate tariffs are indicated on the enclosed accommodation sheet .
There will be a small registration fee ($50 for students and $100 for staff) to cover the cost of the lecture proceedings. Intending participants in the Summer School are requested to submit the Registration Form before 16 October 1998. Limited financial assistance is available on application to students unable to get support from their home institutions, however transportation assistance will not be available to overseas students.
The second circular with more detailed information and the final programme will be sent early November 1998 to those registered for the School.
