PEER REFEREE FOR:

COLLABORATIVE WORK (over 1993-1998):

COMPUTING (listed in order from most experience to least):

Extensive experience in the use of UNIX, Macintosh and IBM PC systems, in the application and design of a wide range of software. Familiar with UNIX shell programming, CGI, Perl, POSTGRES, SQL. Rapid learner of new formal concepts and systems.

Since 1994, I have been heavily involved in the modelling of optical waveguides. My Ph.D. lead to many computer based analyses of different aspects of light propagation in waveguides. Most of this programming has been done on DEC UNIX workstations and coprocessor equipped Macintoshes using C or Pascal depending on my collaborators. During the course of my Ph.D. I gained a detailed knowledge of the symbolic computation package Mathematica.

Waveguide propagation often leads to the solution of partial differential equations and I have written many programs implementing different approaches such as Beam Propagation Method (using Fast Fourier Transform and Finite Differences algorithms), Fourier Decomposition Method and other generalised Fourier-type methods. All of these methods transform the original problem to an eigenvalue problem that is solved by standard IMSL routines.

LANGUAGES:

Fluent in English and Russian. Familiar with German.
