| Photonics R&D engineer with emphasis on planar waveguide device design for optical components and modules. Expertise of integrated waveguide optics, DWDM, BPM waveguide modelling and silica-on-silicon technology. Hands on deep understanding of commercial optical waveguide simulation tools to model optical response of devices. Experienced programmer, developed in-house software to analyse different aspects of light propagation in waveguides. Skilled in CAD/Mechanical design and FEA design optimisation and analysis. Worked closely with the wafer manufacturing team to optimise device fabrication. |

Extensive experience in the use of UNIX, Macintosh and IBM PC systems, in the application and design of a wide range of software. Familiar with UNIX shell programming, CGI, Perl, POSTGRES, SQL. Rapid learner of new formal concepts and systems.
Since 1994, I have been heavily involved in the modelling of optical waveguides. My Ph.D. lead to many computer based analyses of different aspects of light propagation in waveguides. Most of this programming has been done on DEC UNIX workstations and coprocessor equipped Macintoshes using C or Pascal depending on my collaborators. During the course of my Ph.D. I gained a detailed knowledge of the symbolic computation package Mathematica.
Waveguide propagation often leads to the solution of partial differential equations and I have written many programs implementing different approaches such as Beam Propagation Method (using Fast Fourier Transform and Finite Differences algorithms), Fourier Decomposition Method and other generalised Fourier-type methods. All of these methods transform the original problem to an eigenvalue problem that is solved by standard IMSL routines.
