Materials and Complexity V

Focus on 3D data: from the beamline to the structure

10-13 December 2007

This annual workshop brings together researchers and students working across a wide range of topics from the forefront of materials science research, encompassing several orders of magnitude in length scales and connecting the morphology of materials with their physical properties. The focus is on computational, theoretical and experimental work that spans these fields.

The workshop is made possible by generous funding from:
  • The Complex Open Systems Research Network (COSNet)
  • The Australian Research Network for Advanced Materials (ARNAM)
  • The Molecular and Materials Structure Network (MMSN)
  • The Australian Microscopy and Microanalysis Research Facility (AMMRF)

Students and Early Career Researchers are encouraged to attend and will receive a bursary.

The program begins this year with the first Australian Tomography Workshop, a one-day event to be held at the Shine Dome in Canberra on Monday the 10th of December. On Monday afternoon, participants will travel down to the ANU's Kioloa campus, a relaxed venue on the NSW south coast, for the rest of the program, which will include talks on the following topics:

  • Networks and porous media
  • Theory and properties of crystalline frameworks
  • Granular matter
  • Soft matter and self assembly
  • Dynamic Surface Interactions and Surface Forces

Workshop program

  • The program for the Australian Tomography Workshop, on the 10th of December, is available here
  • The program for the Kioloa component, the 11th to the 13th of December is here.
